Mattie and Sarah, are two Mohawk sisters, who are taken to the Carlisle Indian School after their mother's death. Their culture, language, and some things from home were taken from them. This book gives you a glimpse of the cruelty that the children endured, and is based on true stories. It's a sad book. However, one that needs to be read, the truth comes out.

The Wind Eagle and Other Abenaki Stories by Joseph Bruchac.
This book is short but won't disappoint. It gives a brief history of the Abenaki People. The stories are about Gluskabi and all the mischief he gets into. A great introduction to Abenaki stories.
