DUG OUT / BURN OUT CANOE
Calling all curious people. Have you ever wondered how a burn out / dug out canoe was made hundreds of years ago? This is your chance to see one being made in person.
Alnobaiwi will be hosting the creation of a canoe at Mac’s Bend in Swanton Vermont. The project will begin the morning of Sept. 23rd and we are hoping for an official launch on Sept 29th.
This event will include members of the Missisquoi Abenaki Nation and the Nulhegan Band of The Coosuk Abenaki Nation. Brain Chenevert and Dan Shear will be the educators for this event.
If you want to volunteer to participate in the event, feel free to drop a not to David at Alnobaiwi.
Wliwni and hope to see you there.
Update: 09/27/24
The project has been amazing so far. See the pictures below. This has certainly been a learning experience for all of us.
So many wonderful people have come together to make this project possible. Chief Brend Gagne has put in a lot of time working on the burn. David Schein of Alnobaiwi has been an amazing asset in this project.
