Blackhand

I am a wood and stone carver/shaper in native American style. Everything I craft is based on what I see in a piece of wood, rock or animal/plant piece, or some sort of imagination or combination thereof. It can take minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years to finish something. I cant turn it on or off, nor do I think seasons, need or events have any input. I do not think I have any remarkable expertise and as far as I know I have no ability to craft to demand. I wish I could. I do like to make things which can be used and show them to others. Frequently some crafted items or experiences are too private to share. I usually try to craft in a pre or early post contact style. I am not very interested in selling my handmade items although some are occasionally available, I usually give them to family, Alnôbaiwi, tribal or other friends if I am at all able to part with them. Many other craftsmen are better at the same things I do and they can make a lot more than I can. Below are some examples of some works in progress.

A pile of unfinished bowls

These unfinished wooden bowls were mostly hand carved. There are large pine doughbowls, medium sized cherry bowls and miscellaneous smaller ones.

A pile of unfinished chunkey stones

These unfinished chunkey game stones are of white marble, Swanton red marble and soapstone. I plan to finish them in the Spring.
